Amusingly Different

Living in a different country is, well, different. The British may speak English but the choice of words and phrases is very different from the US. Almost on a daily basis I am entertained by differences. Today's amusement came in the form of a waffle. I ordered waffles in my grocery delivery last week. I thought it would be a good easy breakfast food for Avery that she can feed herself. Of course none of the brands are the same here so I wasn't ordering Eggos. This morning I popped a waffle in the toaster and out popped cooked potato. Apparently I ordered potato waffles. I think hashbrown would be a more appropriate name. While I think it was yummy, it's not exactly what I was going for.

Mamamamama

After 6 days with Josh out of town I'm a little bored of primarily talking to an almost 10 month old. But over the last few days Avery has put a huge smile on my face with the rumblings of mamamamama!

Swimming Lessons!

Today was our first day of mom and baby swimming lessons. There were 10 of us in the class. The babies ranged from 8 weeks up to Avery, she was the oldest. Part of the class I pushed Avery through the water on her back with her ears in the water. She wasn't so sure about the water in her ears, she closed her eyes most of the time and put her hands on top of her head a few times. Throughout class we worked on teaching the kids a technique to hold their breath when water is running down their faces. At the end of class each child was submersed by the instructor for a second using the same breath holding technique. I had read about the submersion before class so I was aware that it was going to happen, otherwise I don't know how I would have felt about it. Avery gave a little cry after her dip but quickly snuggled up on my shoulder and immediately settled down. Overall the class was a success and fun!

Teeth!

During the night last night Avery cried and cried and cried. I couldn't figure out what was wrong. This morning I discovered the issue. Not just one but two teeth have cut through her bottom gums! Poor thing! Tonight we will try some Tylenol and see if that helps relieve some of the pain. I tried to get pics but do you realize how difficult it is to open an infants mouth, move her tongue and hold a camera. Let's just say the shots didn't exactly turn out.

Crawling!

It's official, Avery is crawling! Not an army crawl but a normal crawl. Apparently she skipped the army crawl stuff and waited for the real thing. In the last few days she has scooted around a little bit but this afternoon she really went for it and we caught it on camera. Now I'm wondering how quickly I need to order baby gates!

Road Trip

On Monday Avery and I left with Grandma and Grandpa for a whirlwind road trip through the west of England. The first few miles were pretty tense. Grandpa was driving and I was wishing the passenger seat was more toward the middle of the car than the left side near parked cars and curbs. He did eventually get the hang of if although we dig rub a few curbs here and there. We visited Stonehenge, Salisbury, Bath, the Cotswolds and lots of little places in between. We stayed in two B&B's where Grandma and Grandpa had their first full English breakfasts. The first B&B even had fresh eggs from their own chickens. The second B&B was also a winery. It was a great trip!
